4 Occasion Looks For Your Spring/Summer Events Calendar

Weddings. Christenings. Garden Parties. Polo. Prom. The Races - Yes, the spring/summer seasons drop a whole variety of occasions into our social calendars that would be devastatingly depressing if they were held during the Great British Winter. After all, nobody wants their Champagne and blini canap├ęs whipped from perfectly manicured hands by windswept unruly medusa snake-like hair (the term blow dry takes on a whole new meaning...) whilst being drenched by an ice cold rain shower. That doesn't make a classy Instagram photo.

The best thing about such glittering social events? It calls for a dress code. Whilst some may balk at the idea of having to dress to impress, I revel in it. I've touched before on how picking an outfit for going out-out as a twenty-something woman in London is a gargantuan task in itself as there's no unwritten dress code, but these fair-weather formal events call for stricter sartorial rules, which limits any real opportunity to massively fuck up. Plus, it gives the opportunity to dress up. Just dress up, show up, drink some champagne - it's that easy.

Contrary to what Sex and the City or The Devil Wears Prada suggested, the life of a fashion writer isn't all ultra gloss during the 9-5, with many of us in the industry choosing to wear things like pared-back denim and simple yet chic shirts rather than dramatic dresses and cloud-kissing heels. So when an invite drops into your inbox or letter box, it's the perfect time to put on something a little special. To kick-start spring in style, I've teamed up with New Look as one of their Fashion InsidersNew Look's occasion range nails the brief with a collection of sugar-coated pastel hues, angelic whites and sorbet shades crafted into must-have silhouettes of floor-skimming maxi dresses, 60s-inspired A-line mini's and slick tailored separates. Whilst the elegance of this white lace dress (which will be coming back in stock in May!) is dripping with I-could-show-up-the-bride glamour, the pastel blue lace number feels a little modern Cinderella-esque, and the striped co-ord was made for twirling, my favourite has to be the blossom pink jumpsuit. Tailored with simplicity and filtered in a girly hue, it strikes the perfect occasion balance for a girl like me who prefers a girl-meets-boy aesthetic.

Head over to New Look to check out their new occasionwear hub with interactive videos, spotify playlists, and shopping edits to suit every event!

Here's what I wore. What's your favourite look?

Look 2: White lace dress (restocked in May), shoes (similar here), bag
Look 3: Top, skirt, shoes, bag
Look 4: Blue lace dress (restocked May), shoes
