And God looked down to the people and said "let there be a effortlessly cool, undeniably casual piece of clothing that'll never ever ever go out of style"
... and on the 5th day, God created denim.
Perhaps I may have done a little tweaking to the bible there, and perhaps I might have Levis Strauss to thank a little more then the big man up there. But having long been a staple food of our style diet for many a year, the denim renaissance we're finding ourselves in the midst of is truly a thing of greatness. It's not that we ever fell out of love with denim, it's just that it's never snowballed into quite such a frenzy for a very long time. So before I start waxing lyrical over my favourite textile, here's a nice comprehensive edit of all of the best styles you need to know. And it's not just about jeans, there's coats that break far beyond the conventions of your standard denim jacket and trousers with eastern, samurai-style influences. This is a love affair that won't be ending anytime soon...
Denim Coats & Jackets
Proving it's not all about the classic denim jacket as we know it, River Island and Mango offer up more tailored interpretations of denim for a more grown-up approach.
I could write a sonnet about how much I love jeans, but instead I'll just prove it via a really awesome edit of some of the best this season. Whilst I'll never stop loving skinny jeans, the shape to opt for this season is cut looser from the body. Cropped flares and straight legs are having a moment in the style limelight.
Fuss-free, simple, but always effortlessly cool, denim skirts are the perfect option for showing off your legs in summer. I'm obsessed with this red Topshop version.
From western-inspired dresses to retro style pinafores, denim is giving dresses a tough-girl attitude. A black leather biker jacket will be a timeless pairing.
